KEY STRUCTURAL CHALLENGE

  • Complete structural design of Pump Building, Filter Building, and Reaction Building
  • Expand tank and miscellaneous pre-cast vaults

SOLUTION   GOP Limited provided structural engineering design services for significant additions to the existing structures. The two-year, $5 million project expanded the 5 mgd plant to 10.5 mgd by increasing the aerator capacity, modifying existing reaction tanks, and installing a new reaction basin—expanding from nine to twelve filters and increasing the on-site finished water service piping.

FACILITIES

Filter Building   The 38' x 20' addition of reinforced concrete walls and floor is built adjacent to the existing structure and matches each of its levels; above grade walls are reinforced to create the filter material containment walls and baffles. The roof matches the existing profile/structure, and new openings through the existing reinforced concrete walls provide access to new areas.

Reaction Tank   The 35' x 35' addition supports two new forced draft aerators. All walls are reinforced concrete below grade, and create the reaction chambers. A reinforced concrete slab supports aerator equipment above the chambers, and reinforced concrete walls form the baffles for diverting water through the chamber.

Pump Room   The 40' x 15' addition consists of reinforced concrete walls, with a reinforced concrete slab supporting the turbine pumps at grade level; the slab incorporates/supports the turbine can elements. New openings were cut into the foundation to provide access to the addition.
