KEY STRUCTURAL CHALLENGE
- Frame large dome on one side of building-difficult because design was for open, airy view with few columns
- Hang stairs from walls rather than supporting them with columns
- Hide HVAC spaces at main entrance
- Sheer size of building that houses entire school district
STRUCTURE This two-story building sits on shallow spread foundations with masonry bearing walls and steel roof trusses.
FACILITIES The building includes four academic wings, two regulation-size high school gymnasiums, a 550-seat auditorium, and a greenhouse.
