KEY STRUCTURAL CHALLENGE

  • Convert damaged, neglected masonry facade of 90-year-old (built 1915), abandoned building into useful, weatherproof office building

SOLUTION   A former Ford trucks assembly plant and Sears farm implement distribution site, the building is made of concrete with a masonry veneer. GOP Limited tested the building for structural integrity, created openings for two floors of parking-one at grade and one below grade, and stabilized the parapets and other structural elements.

FACILITIES   There are six floors of office space, as well as a ground level and underground garage.

The Design-Build Institute of America recognized the project with the 2004 "Design-Build Award of Excellence" in the Rehabilitation/Renovation/ Restoration category.
