KEY STRUCTURAL CHALLENGE
- The principal challenge is to support the lighted dome at the roof with a reflected round opening (30 feet in diameter) in second floor framing. The solution is our design of a welded steel circular frame to support the dome and transfer the load to the roof framing.
STRUCTURE The two-story building features a reinforced concrete foundation, walls with steel studs, and a roof with open web joists.
FACILITIES The library features classrooms, gym, and an auditorium. There are meeting rooms with 60-foot clear spans on the second floor. Recessed bays allow computer systems areas to easily be reconfigured. The structure is designed for future expansion of each wing.
